Growing up, my nana traveled all over the globe. She went on at least three cruises a year and would always come back with pictures and a new snow globe for me. Throughout my childhood, I was continuously awestruck by her stories. She is my sole inspiration for my dreams of traveling and seeing new places. Due to her health, she is unable to travel like she used to and it breaks my heart to see her stuck at home. During high school I had opportunities to visit other places through clubs and organizations; although I am grateful for those opportunities, I am excited to begin exploring on my own terms.
Now that I am old enough and have the means to plan my own adventures, I have been obsessing over places to go, things to do, and how to make my dreams happen on a budget. I have bucket lists upon bucket lists, budgets upon budgets, and dreams upon dreams that I have every intention of executing as soon as possible. While reminiscing on my previous travels, I posted a picture from my Seattle trip to Instagram and got a little attention from a few travel bloggers. Through being exposed to these accounts, I found so many new places to add to my bucket lists as well as learn tips on budgeting.
My current favorite travel instagrammer is vagablonde_laura. (By the way you should all check out her account, because her photos are beautiful!!) Laura quit her 9-5 finance job in California and began traveling full-time. During her travels, she started the blog Fun Life Crisis. I’ve scoured her blog and drooled over amazing photos while being super jealous for her lifestyle. Even though we all know that social media is where people post their best photos and work very hard at making their life look spectacular, many of us still get a little depressed when our lives don’t match up to what we see. Well let me tell you – travel instagrammers are fantastic at making you feel that their lives are 24/7 nature, hiking, and sightseeing.
It isn’t very often that a popular and successful traveler or blogger or instagrammer comes clean and admits that their lives aren’t as fun, incredible, beautiful, and adventurous as it seems on their account. Well, on Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised to read Laura’s most recent post. She comes right out and says that she doesn’t travel everyday and doesn’t want to give off the wrong idea. I have to admit that I really respect her honesty and humility. She didn’t have to make that statement, but instead she chose to seem more like one of us, which – to me – made me appreciate her feed, travel tips, and lifestyle even more.
So thank you humble travel instagrammer. I hope to come across many other inspiring travelers like you!
